How to Save Money : Personal Time
Look like a million dollars for just a few pennies a day
After clothing, two of the biggest expenses for women are haircare and cosmetics. You can save hundreds of dollars each year by learning to do your own shampoos, sets, blow-dries and color. Save even more if you cut your family's hair. For pedicures, manicures and facials consider hosting a "spa night" with friends. And when buying beauty products, skip the department store and head for your local drug store or grocery store. You'll find reasonably priced quality cosmetics. For extra discounts, check store flyers for weekly deals and join the store's preferred customer program.
Free time that's actually "free"
There are lots of opportunities for fun that don't cost money. Public parks offer nature walks and picnic areas. During the summer, there are often free outdoor concerts and ice skating in the winter. Save money by attending high school sporting events instead of college and pro games. Be sure to check out the Dollar Theater in your city. And if it's live theater, ballet or opera you love, volunteer to usher at these events.
One great way to meet new people is to become active in community groups such as choirs, civic clubs and charities like Habitat for Humanity. Socialize with old friends at home by having potluck suppers and game nights.
Other ideas... trade in your health club membership for a home workout or jog. Eliminate cable TV (and the huge monthly bill!), cut down on trips to the video store and cancel subscriptions to entertainment magazines that are available at the library. And the most relaxing idea of all: take vacations at home.
Did You Know?
Spending time instead of cash with your family could save more than just money in your pocket. As the old saying goes, "money does not equal happiness."
